Dear peers in the Spamcop newsgroup,
I'm one of the private users of MailWasher Pro, who took part in the beta
test of that software. Here is my experience FYI. Writing this, I've no
intention for advertising.
As far as my computer is concerned, MailWasher's forwarding of confirmed
spam to submit.my-ID at spam.spamcop.net works well. My former complaint of a
bug has bin fixed.
This is how my spam is detected with Mailwasher:
44% is detected both with FirstAltert and with Spamcop DNS
22% is detected by Spamcop DNS only
2% is detected by FirstAlert only. This figure is
expected to rise quickly
8% is detected by self-made filters using regular expressions
4% is detected by blacklist of sender's email-address
20% of spam was missed. I deleted it manually.
My spot checks confirmed: Neither FirstAlert nor Spamcop flag any legitime
mail.
I don't list Mailwasher's heuristic scanning, because it is extremly
unrelyable. It flags only a tiny fraction of the spam and sometimes does
flag legitime mail. I switched its action off. The programmers didn't reply
when I told them this fact.
Bouncing spam emails is useless, please ignore this feature and make sure it
is switched off. In my opinion, this feature of MailWasher is just for
attracting potential buyers.
Mailwasher's web site does not emphasize the virus detection. However, I
have the impression that the virus detection has impoved brilliantly.
I'm sure the connection of Mailwasher and Spamcop is a win-win for both of
them and their databases. However, Mailwasher's additional features are
charged additionally.
Yours,
Christoph Thomas
