You can download one of three versions that have been ported to Windows.
Once you get Quake for DOS installed, go online and look for:
Winquake, GLQuake, or ProQuake. You can find them all at
www.planetquake.com. I'm using ProQuake because it fixes problems that
vanilla Quake has with NAT routers and firewalls. But for single player
only, any one of the three works just fine. If you want to play online, you
can also download Quakeworld, which greatly streamlines how Quake runs over
a network / online.
