While it doesn't seem likely, it also seems more likely than not that
the SC newsserver giving 201s to someone while giving 200s to most/all
other ones is due to a news server configuration status rather than
anything going on or condition on the user/agent/provider end which is
receiving the 201.
So, if one surmises that the 201 arises from the configuration of the
newsserver toward 'something' like an IP, which is the only thing the
newsserver sees at the time of connection -- it might be further
surmised that the newsserver is configured to give a 201 to some IP/s
and a 200 to the rest.
Or...
Borg is crazy. He didn't get a 201 with his telnet to news.spamcop.net.
He was having a little hallucination from spending too much time in the
sun in a helmet.
Besides, helmet almost rhymes with telnet, so there must be some
relationship.
Offhand I can't think of any other scenarios.
