I think it is just an address.  Spam needs a bogus From.

That's as good a from as any other.  Belated bounces [accepted & From
newmailed] of items with that From address used to get some kind of
devnull effect as it was a recommended newsgroup From munge.  Nowadays
the recommended is nobody at devnull.spamcop.net - so things have changed.
