It's easy enough. Yahoo! allows open groups, meaning that a spammer can
sign up and send one or more posts to all subscribers before being
stopped by the listowner or a moderator. In addition, a spammer can open
a group and subscribe members without their confirmation - though Yahoo!
has made that undesirable (by spammer standards) by limiting the number
who can be added at once.

I 'own' some Yahoo! groups. All are closed (subscription by invitation
only) and none permits subscription without confirmation.
