Actually, when you read any mail, it has to have been stored on your hard
drive in order for you to process it, if it is/has been on your hard drive,
then anyone (esp. the feds) can retrieve it and BINGO you are caught as
having "saved" something illegal on your hard drive  - and of course you
know what that means when the 'boys in blue' knock on your door.
