[SpamCop-List] Re: Exodus - strange reply, worthy of a dark-shade hat

All of the above posts have valid points, but I feel that Exodus should have
said "Contact our downstream (the spammers' upstream) for more info." I
agree with you, Huey, however, the text I received was quite murky between
the lines. You have a different POV than I do, and therefore will interpret
the same paragraph differently (just see the ebay thread).
<FACT>: I got a response from Exodus, which means SC gave me
abuse (or whatever) as the address to send report to.
<ASSUMPTION>: UUnet (supposedly) and Sympatico have the ability to follow
the chain downwards - if exodus doesn't, they should require their
downstreams to maintain proper DNS and rDNS and abuse info. If they don't,
they will get the reports, plain and simple.
<PERSONAL STATEMENT>: It's a case of passing the buck. Unfortunately, I
have neither the time nor the skills to track down spammers down to their
wall jack. We (tinw) have enough smart spammer-trackers in our midst that
can pursue the open relays, obfuscated addresses, etc. Me personally, I
have just enough time to forward the 30 e-mails in my hotmail bulk-mail
folder to sc, process them (and of course, I'm careful with who the LARTs
go to), and then process the garbage stuck in my SC filters. I just don't
have enough time to actually follow the links, and check the relays, etc. I
feel that I contribute enough by processing what I can, with the choices
that SC parser gives me.

P.S.: I hope this response is not seen as a personal attack, just a
frustration with the big guys (Exodus, Telocity, Sprint PCS, Good Guys,
etc.) who just don't give a damn about the little people.
