Just to set the record straight, the machine and bandwidth were very kindly
donated by someone else. He doesn't actually post on here, to my knowledge,
but he wanted to help out. I've never seen the machine. If anyone needs ISP
service in Tampa Bay, though, you might give him a call.
.social tends to wander far and wide. There just tends to be stuff in there
that you wouldn't necessarily want saved forever. Yeah, it's public, but
it's always been kind of separated from Usenet. Now, if Google becomes the
de-facto standard for Usenet searching, our conversations will turn up just
like in Usenet.
It will be interesting to see if Google tries to implement a way to post to
our newsgroups when they turn on posting.
