I wasn't thinking of configuring the modem. Mine have been Motorolas,
owned and 'maintained' [= replaced when they break] by the cableco,
currently Surfboard SB4100, which isn't configurable at all. Its little
activity light is just 'humming' right now with 'bad' general net
activity. The security configuration has to be on the user's side of
the modem. The only thing the modem defends is itself, hopefully.
