There are plenty of ways to get a bounce other than due to spam filtering:

1. Mailbox full thanks to worms and spam

2. ISP glitch

3. Faulty bl used for filtering

What you did seems reasonable. If the problem recurs, have your ISP fix 
whichever of those may apply.
