A lot depends upon what you've used the address for.
I once (on a very limited basis and in a very limited number of
groups) posted one or two messages to a series of fan.author.<author>
newsgroups. I received several "conversational" replies, to which I
responded (these were all favorite authors of mine), but the end
result was the address was flooded with spam... around a 1100 a week
earlier this year.
Since then, my ISP switched spam systems and the number has dropped
off considerably (I think they are blocking anything that looks or
smells like an open proxy/compromised machine).
The point is this -- if you have ever used the address out in the
open, such on usenet newsgroups, then the numbers are consistent with
my experience.
