I'm sure that if SpamPal were associated with such an installation and
infestation that it would be a topic of mass discussions by the many
many participants in the SP forums at

and over 10000 posts of SP users and developers and there's no mention
of such a problem that I saw.

My guess is that somehow your infestation was temporally associated with
SP, but causally by something else.  That is, you got infested by some
other process about the same day or so that you installed SP.

Those forums would be a good place for you to take your concerns to
discuss them.  There are a great many more SP users and installers over
there than here.  There are also nntp ng/s in both English and German at
news://news.uni-x.net - but I don't know how busy they are.  See login
