[SpamCop-List] What about Remove links under CAN-SPAM?

If many legitimate companies, or individuals, begin sending out "legal"
SPAM - emails which meet the requirements of CAN-SPAM - how in the world
are we going to be able to figure out which Remove links we can use and
which are merely the old "Respond to this and we will know that yours is
a valid email address" Remove links?

The only way to get someone to stop SPAMMING us, assuming they are
following CAN-SPAM, is to use their Remove link but that can also lead
to your simply confirming that your email address is valid.

Any thoughts on how we tell people to handle Remove links. Up until now
I, and everyone I know, have always told people to NEVER reply to SPAM
or use a Remove link.

What do we do now?

P.S. CAN-SPAM or not, I'm still trying to find time to report every SPAM
I get (filtered or not - when I have the time I download my filtered
SPAM and report it) through SpamCop - but it takes a couple of hours
each day to do so :-)
