Yes, Xnews has a toggle to disable automatic linewrapping in the message
composer.  When reading posts, Xnews always renders them faithfully, not
changing a single bit unless I specifically use any of its "fixing"
functions: 
 * Word wrap (enables linewrapping of long lines)
 * Fix badly wrapped text (rearranges badly wrapped lines of quoted
 text) 
 * Uniform quoting (rearranges leading quoting marks and
 whitespace)

It doesn't.  Xnews does not do reformatting unless it is told to.

Hmmm... I'll go looking for an 8bit sample to test.

The original sample was 7bit, and I already posted it pasted without 
linewraps.  I'm going to post now another sample with 8bit test.
