And, IMO, that will be one of the main points used when they
drop the freebie stuff and move to pay-only accounts. I've
seen SC go from being a way to control spam (which is still
is if used properly) to being mainly to support the BL,
which as mentioned benefits the BL users more than it
benefits the SC bl "contributors".
Personally, I find the SC bl as good as or better than the
other lists, and never less useful. So far. SC in the
beginning WAS a one-man operation and as such required
donations and supporters for its growth existance. However,
now that Ironport's around, no matter what anyone says,
ANYTHING any company owns MUST bring them a profit or they
will dump it in one way or another. Contrary to a lot of
things I've seen discussed here, Ironport can only have one
goal in acquiring SC: Profit. THEN, anything good to come
of it is simply gravy and perpetuates the profit.
Since I use the bl, in the sense of this thread, I don't
mind "contributing" my spam. On the other hand, I use SC to
also STOP the spam from reaching my Inbox. I never pursue
listwashing and never ask for it, but I"m sure it's happened
to me. But, any way I look at it, I DO derive a benefit
from SC that is more than the bl, but I'm not sure I could
could have done that without the bl. Obviously, it's not
JUST SC that controls the amount of spam I don't get;
everything from luck to astute use of my resources is why my
spam load is low and has been for nearly a year now.
As long as the full results of the SC parses are
available to me I will continue to use SC unless another
more viable service should appear, which so far isn't
happening. I might even pay for it, but that would depend
on how much they want, what I get out of it, and so on. I
have zero need for yet another account and password to frog
with, so I wouldn't be likely to use those services. What I
was paying for would have to align with MY needs, not those
who benefit from my congtributions. Right or wrong, that's
how I feel, and I do believe that we may well soon see the
demise of SC in the format that we are used to. It'll
probably continue to exist, but in what form is yet to be
seen. It could also go down the tubes and have been
purchased simply to be used as a tool for the sole benefit
of Ironport in an entirely different endeavor; who knows?
Anyway, them's my thoughts, such as they are.
