Because of my morbid fear of this happening, I've implemented a policy of
"you bring in your laptop, you release it to me for a full inspection
first". My users have no problem with this because it helps keep their own
computers safe too. I have a workstation that is apart from our network and
not connected to the outside world that I connect the laptop to, run a full
virus scan and inspect their windows updates. I have CD's with all the
updates for different versions of Windows that I can use immediately to
update their computer. I'm obsessive about it, but <patting self on back>
I've kept virmen out of our network for the 5+ years that I've been
responsible for it.
I end up happy because I've kept my network safe, and the users end up happy
because they know that they're safer now too.
I don't know how I'd react if someone snuck in an infected laptop and it
strangled my system. Possibly strangle the user.... :)
Thanks for the heads up on the new nasty out there!
