If you happen to express an interest in any British soccer
club, you will almost certainly end up registering with one of
the "official" fan sites - all run by "FLPTV Ltd".

Once you are gregistered... prepare for a shock...having found
out all about you (car? kids? how home?) you have to sign on
before you can see any news on the local club site and send
you a weekly newsletter more like a spamsheet. But if you then
decide to "unsubscribe" you are in for a bigger shock - you
can't. You can put the newsletter on hold, but there's no way
to actually "cancel" your subscription. Come to think of it,
there isn't even an email address to contact the club or FLPTV
Ltd (also known as premiuntv.co.uk). Unless you write a
letter... The only way to actually email someone is - as usual
- the advertising and sponsorship officer... So I sent this to
Nick Fisher (advertising at premiumtv.co.uk):

Hello Nick Fisher,

Nice to make your acquaintance.

I once expressed an interest in Ipswich Town and now find it
is completely impossible to get out of their system. I can
apparently stop the newsletter coming, but apparently I cannot
remove my details from their website... or any other run by
FLPTV Limited. Of course there is no email address either for
them or for the Fooball League. Indeed, the only email contact
apparently wanted by the company is for advertising and
sponsorship.

It is a little transparent, don't you think? The punters get
trampled... as usual.
Kindly try to find out how this site can make itself look a
little less like a crooked spam shark site and more like a
service to soccer fans.

Greetings

Martin Cleaver
