It's neither.  It's a function of the web server at <spamcop.net>, which
explicitly tells the browser to redirect to <www.spamcop.net>.

Opera 7.54 doesn't do it.
Netscape 4.76 doesn't do it.
Internet Explorer 6.0 doesn't do it.

Unless you go to a web site that explicitly tells the browser to do so,
as is the case with <http://spamcop.net>.

What browser are you using that does this on its own?
