I do agree my answer was confusing.

I'm not native english, and often I have to do a lot of editing on any
sentence I try to barf. Quite often, this means parts and pieces of previous
versions end up in the final version, and, as we all know, it's hard to
accurately re-read when you *think* you know what's there already.

To make my point absolutely clear, this is what I tried to agree to:

* top-posting = bottom-quoting = 'reflexly, like a knee jerk'
* bottom-posting = top-quoting
* top-quoters trim the quoting more often, since they see the need, since
it's 'sitting there right before one's eyes'
* for the same reason, they also tend to re-read what they are actually
respond to, and the respons tends to be better

I would like to stress this is not the only argument in favor of
bottom-posting = top-quoting, but an additional argument, on top of the ones
given in http://web.presby.edu/~nnqadmin/nnq/nquote.html, though it is a
very good one.
