Spamcop caches whois info to save doing too many lookups, which would
slow things down. Also the registries may limit the number of whois
queries in a given time period. Spamcop would easily exceed this limit
and find itself locked out.

Simply that the address doesn't seem appropriate when you recognize
the domain, or after you've done your own whois check - as you saw
for yourself. If you refresh the cache, the software will show how it
obtains the address.

It can happen for spam source addresses as well as spamvertized URLs.
