In the main, it looks like the main beneficiaries of spam today are spam
gangs that run the pyramidal spam operations;

Registrars

Not a few ISP's that make significant revenues from supporting known spam
operations, XO and MCI among others come to mind,

China,

Penny Stock Promoters and Fraudsters,

Pharmaceuticals, (Yes, I think Pfizer and others get a lot of business and
publicity from spam) and

Lenders.

There seem to be 4 types of spam nowadays:

Advanced fee,, including 419, "lottery" some mortgage spams, and "Prize"
spams,

Phishing, including the obvious EBay and Paypal, Cities , as well as almost
all Mortgage spam,

Penny stock promotions.

Pharmaceuticals, (many fakes and copies) and Warez (Piracy).

Given the astounding amount of PHISHES directing to a few Chinese websites I
don't doubt for a moment that phished data isn't pipelined directly to
Chinese Intelligence authorities. We are basically in a Cold war with China
over Taiwan today.
