If you mean the number names such as xxx-teens for English, I seem to
recall that German puts the digits before the tens in the names of a lot
more numbers than just those teens, like vier und zwanzig

'/designed/ for right to left?'  As if the shape of a 9 or a 6 or a 3
was 'designed' to 'flow' from right to left?

I never heard of such a thing.
