Thanks for going to the trouble to verify the default. I'm very pleased
at how much more 'emphatically' the CastleCops forum people and wiki are
trying to guide the MW users in spite of the developers'
wrong-headedness.
The only improvement I've seen evidenced by the developers themselves is
that they have almost completely eliminated all of the hype in the
'front pages' which they used to perform/espouse to convince everyone
who dl/ed MW that they should be bogus bouncing with MW to eliminate
their spam.
However, there's still plenty of misleading, mistaken information about
MW's bogus bouncing available at the FireTrust site
http://www.firetrust.com/firetrustsupport_mailwasherpro_faqusing.html
The user is told that
- forging their provider's postmaster addy is an option
- the From is referred to as the 'sender'
- the user is misled to believe that the forged From addressed bogus
bounces just 'disappear' as if they were a bad address rather than an
innocent bystander
- the management of the bounced bogus bounces is 'trivialized'
- the user is 'reassured' that any spammers who get a bogus bounce
can't tell where it came from, which is absolutely untrue, the user's IP
is in the bogus bounce header for reporting by abused forged From
recipients
In my digging in the CastleCops forum, which is populated with MW users,
I've never seen a MW appear and stand up for bogus bouncing or the MW
lies which are promulgated at the FT site.
Personally, I belive that the MW developers are in cahoots with mailing
list spammers. The whole 'purpose' of MW's function is to help mailing
list spammers listwash the MW users. How many innocent forged froms get
abused isn't as important to them as helping out their mailing list
admin buddies who like to listwash dirty lists.
