That is what I'm hearing for which I have no logical explanation -- so
it makes it what seems to me 'unbelievable' -- which makes other people
crazy --  ["Are you calling me a liar!?"] -- I don't know how to
communicate what/how my 'disbelief' works.  Maybe like some form of "I
don't really understand yet."

How would you duplicate it?  Have you ever seen such a spam which
'appears' in your inbox at download as already read?

The most I could hope to experimentally duplicate or belie by
non-duplicating would be Barny's premise that if I download an item with
one mua and leave it on the popserver that when I download it with
another different mua that it will arrive in the inbox of the 2nd
appearing as read.  I also don't 'believe' that my experiment will
duplicate /that/ either.  No, I'm not calling Barny a liar either.
