I don't have a problem with the confirmation letters when a person
subscribes. In fact, I think it's a good idea to ensure that every email
address submitted is legit. (See my message to Mike.) But, to send an
annual letter to each of the 5,000 member is going to require Admin
intervention, no? I'm not sure how that would be implemented
automatically. As I've said, I'm not sure exactly how the Majordomo system
handles the mail list messages, that's beyond my realm of expertise. I am
only a lowly volunteer Administrator who only came in here to try to
discover how SC handled spam reports, which I have now come to understand,
thanks to the great discussion here. We do have a bounce system, where an
Administrator handles the bounces to invalid email addresses, etc. and
unsubscribes those as necessary.
