Intrepid newsgroup readers - I have a cursorily-tested version of the
account conversion system up and running. Please use with care. This
is a rather complicated piece of code, and although I've done some
testing during development, and I've tried to make things fail-safe, it
most certainly has bugs. I can easily imagine a situation where this
could lock you out of your email. Furthermore, the weekend aproacheth,
and I know I won't be responding quickly if/when problems arise.

OTOH, I'm sure most of you have been affected by the recent delays.
Moving your accounts should solve this problem for you personally and
also help to solve it for me as well, by reducing the load on my system.

Note that your access to your existing (legacy) spamcop account will be
REVOKED when you do this, so get any information you want from it before
the switch (blacklists, whitelists, past spam reports, etc). In theory,
replies to spam reports you have filed with your existing account, as
well as any stray emails left in the queue should be forwarded to the
new account.

If you try this before monday, please reply to this message with any
results you have, positive or negative. Likewise, you should check the
replies to this message before you go ahead to see if there are any
major problems. If people try this and their results are positive, I'll
make a general announcement early next week.

Finally, a note about the free reporting service included with the new
accounts. Due to software problems (mod_auth_mysql won't check two
different authentication DBs within the same apache process), email
users (scmail.spamcop.net) are currently using the same web server as
free users (spamcop.net). OTOH, reporting-only users
(members.spamcop.net) get their own server. As a result, you will have
to fight it out with the free users to report spam, and things might be
a bit slow. I'll fix this someday.
