Geekmail Users;
It is with sincere regret that we are writing to inform you that
geekmail will discontinue services as of April 9. 2004. This early end
to our business was instantiated by a dissident shareholder who has
blocked both our efforts to secure outside investment and to transfer
ownership of the service to a party willing to finance it to
profitability.
Geekmail's two original founders, Ian and Gersham, have laboured hard
against growing opposition over these past few months to secure a future
for geekmail as a service, even without their involvement if need be, to
no avail. A British Columbia Supreme Court Order dated March 23rd
has granted a 60-day injunction against transfer of the assets of the
company and, though this could be overturned, we needed to make a
choice between spending geekmail's money to fight a long legal battle
or refunding as much of that money as possible back to the customers.
With legal action having been threatened for some months, we have
held cash in reserve as a precaution of closure. As it stands,
geekmail will be refunding the subscription fees for as many accounts
as possible over the next few days.
We have arranged for a special discount offer for geekmail subscribers
who wish to use one of our former competitors, FuseMail. FuseMail
offers nearly every key feature that geekmail offers, and for customers
who put "geekmail" in their referer field, their 60 free trial will be
extended to four months. We feel they are a reputable company with
professional, credible founders and would encourage our users to
explore their services as an option.
Fusemail's web site is at http://www.fusemail.com To take advantage
of their geekmail promotional offer please enter "greekmail" as the
promotional code when subscribing.
We are humbled by the faith placed in us by all of the users of geekmail,
and we are profoundly sorry that we were not able to keep geekmail
operational amid these unforeseeable circumstances, and hope that you
appreciated the passion and dedication, not to mention the time and
money, that we invested in providing you with the most affordable, powerful
combination of features to Detox Your Inbox. We share in your
disappointment that this dream was, under these circumstances, not
sustainable.
We hope to meet all of you again some time;
Ian Andrew Bell
Gersham Meharg
