I spent a couple hours talking to one of the contractors that just redid
my kitchen countertops (replacing 30-year-old Formica with shiny _new_
Formica). _His_ observation, commenting on all the new home construction
and remodelling going on in this area (metro DC) was that anyone who
didn't have a job (even as a day laborer) didn't _want_ a job.
<shrug> Just his opinion, but he and his son were spending the last days
of three straight work weeks away their home in the Carolinas. They
_wanted_ to work, and they were. (And they did good work, too.) -JW
