The first season is when "24" shattered my willing suspension of
disbelief beyond repair. The scene that did is the one where Bauer went
to the hospital after his daughter's friend was in the car accident, and
found that the conspirators were watching him through the hospital's
security cameras. How could they have known which hospital the friend
would be taken to?
The problem with conspiracy-based shows is that if the conspiracy is
that large, someone has an incentive to blow the whistle on it. And if
it's that well-organized, then it can do just about anything it wants
with impunity.
