Message-ID: Since I started taking BP medicine about 2 weeks ago so I could take that damn FCE test my health has slowly been deteriorating, and today I felt the worst I have in many, many months. Totally brain dead (at my acupuncture session this afternoon I couldn't add 8 + 7 in my head, no joke), felt completely exhausted, nauseas as hell, and every muscle in my body was screaming in pain. Sleep patterns for the last 5 days were all over the place too. I accidentally inhaled some spray paint fumes yesterday, which I'm very sensitive to, so I thought that was why I felt like a truck had hit me overnite. When I first started the med my pulse raced at times (as high as 130), just like a friend of mine when he started taking the exact same ACE inhibitor, but the frequency of them was diminishing quite a bit as my body adjusted to the med (or so I thought). My BP last night was so low (106/58, pulse 87) that I was freezing, and had to put a blanket on my legs and an extra sweatshirt on my torso while watching TV. While getting acupuncture treatment today, my pulse was well over 100 when she started working on me. She got it as low as 80, but it kept bouncing all over the place, between 80-120 during the entire 2 hours. She was very, very worried, and made me call my doctor while she worked on me. I didn't get to talk to him, but I talked to the other doc in his practice and she told me to eat lots of salt tonite, drink lots of fluids, and to get my ass to their clinic ASAP tomorrow (and stop taking the damn BP pills). She almost didn't believe me about the racing pulse problem, she said "well, you'd have to be one in 10,000 people then" -- it's supposedly not a "normal" reaction to the drug. We believe the problem lies in very messed up electrolytes, and that's why my acupuncturist was so worried. ACE inhibitors make your body excrete all electrolytes except for potassium, which it actually helps retain. So achy muscles = cramps from electrolyte imbalance, and racing/bouncing pulse potentially caused by dangerously high potassium levels, which = possible heart attack and/or death. She told me if I felt any heart fluttering, extreme dizziness when standing up from a sitting or prone position, or a very high pulse to call 911 and get to the ER. I can't believe my doctor didn't warn me about ANY of these potentially serious side effects! Thank ghod my acupuncurist also was an RN for 14 years.......this is what happens when you take a drug you DON'T NEED! I have BP spikes when under high stress, not a regularly high BP, dammit! I certainly did discuss them with him today at my office visit. The racing pulse (tachycardia) issue *is* an apparently very rare side effect of Altace, although the nausea and hypotension are a bit more common. I pretty much stopped seeing this doctor on a regular basis after starting treatment with my Lyme doctor, so he didn't know too much about my current state of health, not that that excuses him for not giving me some kind of warning about what to watch out for. He *did* check to see whether the Altace would interact with anything else I am currently taking before prescribing it. And until yesterday, I was totally unaware that a resting pulse of over 100 is dangerous territory. > > [Did you get an information sheet with the drug on your first purchase?] Yeah, but I don't think I read it.....even if I had done so, I still lacked the knowledge to know what symptoms were potentially dangerous, so unless it was specifically spelled out that "if you experience a pulse over 100 at rest" it wouldn't matter whether I read it or not. I _was_ aware of the potential for hypotension, but since my body's ability to self regulate my internal temperature has been compromised since I got sick I didn't directly tie my "freezing my ass off" feeling with the BP med -- it's happened lots of times over the last couple years -- I'm either sweating or feeling cold quite often. I've looked at most of the areas where I could easily cut costs, and the pickings are pretty slim. Changing the company I buy my NG and electricity from will save me about 10% (MD is deregulated, believe it or not wind power is actually cheaper than BGE's standard price per K-watt-hour). The only other big savings I found would be for me to drastically limit my cable/internet bill, and since I'm pretty much homebound getting rid of the extended cable channels and high-speed connection service would be a huge price to pay, but one I'll have to make if it comes down to that or running out of money. When I eventually return to work I expect to have to take a pretty big paycut from what I was making before I got sick, unless the economy is better or booming by then. The biggest and easiest way to cut my monthly costs was to re-fi my house and wrap my home equity car loan into the new mortgage. But I can only do that because I've been in the same house for 15 years now and have a ton of equity in it. It appears that I've gotten approval for the re-fi on one of those "don't need to verify income" loans that caused the entire mortgage crisis, I just have to clear up a couple of errors on my mortgage app. I re-fi'd with the same company that currently owns my mortgage (Wells Fargo), and last week I got a letter from my homeowner's insurance company that said that my coverage had changed from my old loan to the new loan account, which I take as a sign that my re-fi has been approved. Just need to sign the revised paperwork. That'll save me a ton of money, even adding the car loan balance (at a 6.99% rate) to the the payoff of my old home loan will end up reducing my total costs by about $800/month -- I went from a 6% mortgage rate to a 4.875% rate on the re-fi and wrapped all the closing costs plus points into the new loan too, still ended up with an estimated monthly payment about $30 less than what I'm paying right now. P.S. Unless your S.O. makes enough to mostly cover your monthly costs, unemployement benefits suck hugely. There's no way I could come close to paying my bills on what I'd be eligible to get from unemployment payments. And the SSDI payments, which my LTD insurer made me apply for, max out at around $900/month -- that doesn't even cover my mortgage, let alone everything else. I wiped out my savings trying to make ends meet and cover bills. I forget exactly what David does for a living, but in the DC-Baltimore Metro area there are literally hundreds of engineering, IT, and program management jobs available from the multiple defense contractors located down here. Bad news is that more than 70% of the ones I found require you to have top secret clearance already ;-( If you have a choice, take the pay > cut and keep your benefits, being without health insurance sucks out loud. I've been looking into that "just in case", which is turning out to be more and more likely (that I won't be back at work when my COBRA coverage runs out in June). The state of MD offers an "insurer of last resort" plan, but it looks like it's going to be even more expensive than my already outrageous COBRA premiums for less coverage. Although I pay for more than 50% of my health care out of pocket as it is (dietary supplements and acupuncture aren't covered, my two biggest expenses), and given that I came damn close to having a heart attack this week because of that fscking BP med, I can't afford to NOT have health insurance. I need something for at a minimum catastrophic/surgical/emergency situations. Message-ID: Just got an email from my re-fi officer, asking "Can you get a letter, from them [UNUM] stating your disability is long term and will continue for another 3 years?" My partial reply: No, my disability company will not provide such a letter to anyone stating my benefits will last at least 3 years. My case is reviewed every three months! I strongly doubt you could get such a letter for ANYONE from a LTD company unless someone had suffered a permanent disability and had been confirmed as permanently disabled by Social Security and was getting SSDI benefits for it, and even then the LTD companies will review your claim at least once a year to make sure you are still disabled -- their sole purpose is to stop paying out claims by any means possible. That's the basis for my "you won't be able to get such a letter from any LTD company". I have done plenty of research on this subject online, including joining an online group dedicated to providing information and resources for people on short and long term disability, so I know what I'm talking about. And I haven't suffered a permanent disability, and believe that I'll be working in the next 3-6 months if my current rate of improvement continues. When we started this whole process it was my understanding from communications with you that I was getting a non-conforming loan that didn't require income documentation? I never would have proceeded with the re-fi and paid for the appraisal if I had known that this was not the case. And I know I told you right at the start that I was laid off from my company after not working for one calendar year and that I was on LTD and receiving COBRA health coverage from my ex-employer, and that I expected to be returning to work some time in 2009. UNUM is currently re-evaluating my claim, and that process will go on into June at the earliest based on the recent news of my heavy metal poisoning test results and some further medical testing that they are scheduling for me to take in the next month or so. In my opinion I am an extremely low risk for defaulting on the re-fi loan based on all the info provided above -- I wouldn't be doing this if I was worried about defaulting! Why would I risk paying all those closing costs and points and reduce my most valuable asset, my home equity, by more than $20,000 if I were? The way I see it, Wells Fargo would make out like bandits if I DID default -- you'd profit by $140,000 if you seized my house from a default. Right now, it sounds like this was all a time and money wasting process to me unless you re-evaluate the probability of me defaulting based on the information contained in this email. Is there any way to keep the some or all of the documentation in a "semi-active" file so that I don't have to go thru the whole thing from the start when I do return to work and re-apply? At the minimum, I want the appraisal documentation sent to me for my records, since I already paid for it. I'm not sure what period of time for which the appraisal is valid, but it may help me avoid paying the fee again when I re-apply (or re-open the current mortgage re-fi process with you). To say I am NOT pleased right now doesn't come close to describing the way I feel....the extra stress caused by waiting/worrying whether I was going to get the loan approved, and the waste of a lot of time and effort I could have spent doing other things, like my damn taxes. I've never waited this long to do them, but my health has been so up and down over the last month or so that I didn't trust my brain to do them correctly. Now I gotta fill out the forms and just hope I get everything right... By N. R. KLEINFIELD Published: March 31, 2009 Dr. Hershel Samuels, an orthopedic surgeon, put his hand on the worker's back. "Mild spasm bilaterally," he said softly. He pressed his fingers gingerly against the side of the man's neck. "The left cervical is tender," he said, "even to light palpation." The worker, a driver for a plumbing company, told the doctor he had fallen, banging up his back, shoulder and ribs. He was seeking expanded workers' compensation benefits because he no longer felt he could do his job. Dr. Samuels, an independent medical examiner in the state workers' compensation system, seemed to agree. As he moved about a scuffed Brooklyn office last April, he called out test results indicative of an injured man. His words were captured on videotape. Yet the report Dr. Samuels later submitted to the New York State Workers' Compensation Board cleared the driver for work and told a far different story: no back spasms, no tender neck. In fact, no recent injury at all. "If you did a truly pure report," he said later in an interview, "you'd be out on your ears and the insurers wouldn't pay for it. You have to give them what they want, or you're in Florida. That's the game, baby." Independent medical exams are among the most disputed components of New York's troubled workers' compensation system. Under that system, workers with bona fide injuries are entitled to medical care and replacement wages, usually paid for by their employer's insurer. The independent exams are designed to flush out workers who exaggerate injuries or get unnecessary care, and there is no question that some of that goes on. As a check on what a worker's doctor determines, insurers are allowed to order an ostensibly neutral exam by a doctor they select and pay for. They do so regularly, with more than 100,000 exams conducted each year. But a New York Times review of case files and medical records and interviews with participants indicate that the exam reports are routinely tilted to benefit insurers by minimizing or dismissing injuries. I'm still trying to find out how an IME and FCE differ, all I know right now is that an IME requires an MD to perform it and an FCE doesn't. I also briefly explained my situation in an online form and put in a request for an independent IME cost estimate at http://www.medicalexperts.com/Corporate_Profile.aspx , just in case......although from what I've found so far it looks REALLY expensive to pay for one yourself, could easily get as high as $2k for what I'd need. After following autumn around the world for months then hitting the tail end of summer here, it seems like autumn has hit again. I need to grab a jacket before I go out tonight. Arrived in Melbourne a few days ago. Settled down, neighbors said I could borrow their interwebs signal, now I just have to get a visa so I can look for a job. Having your own done won't make much difference. I had one done by Mayo Clinic at my expense. As second one done by the state of Texas with an eye to finding out what I could do and needed to do to get back to work. Insurance company and the SSA ignored the results in favor of hacks that not only were not licensed to treat patients admitted under oath that they did not have any qualifications in the field. One could not so much as pronounce the buzz words. Interesting side. We had the results of my qualification test for several of the US military academies as a base. My experience comes from court rulings. A bit old at this point and from Texas courts and the 5th circuit both well known for being insurance company friendly. I do know, and this from my congress, the SSA employs a lot of MD with just an MD license many of those are not permitted to treat patients (typically for drug abuse, malpractice and or fraud) I had a number of you pick one of these that my attorney filed objections to most again were licensed but not permitted to treat for the same reasons. In one case a deep background check disclosed the MD was suffering from dementia. : From autocad at 2010.com Thu Apr 9 19:05:04 2009 From: autocad at 2010.com (autodesk autocad electrical 2010 full download ) Date: Sat Apr 25 11:00:22 2009 Subject: [SpamCop-Social] autocad electrical 2010 autodesk full download crack torrent rapidshare 48140057751387848824 Message-ID: email = xshowsoft@gmail.com email = xshowsoft at gmail.com autocad electrical 2010 full download crack torrent rapidshare autocad electrical 2010 download autocad electrical 2010 crack autocad electrical 2010 full download autocad electrical 2010 torrent download autocad electrical 2010 torrent autocad electrical 2010 rapidshare autocad electrical 2010 megaupload autocad electrical 2010 autodesk email = xshowsoft@gmail.com email = xshowsoft at gmail.com Artpro 7.6. You mean your boss didn't yell at you the next day "why didn't you call to let us know?" Several years ago, when a large chunk of the Northeast US was hit with a blackout, I remember my boss (in unaffected Ohio) calling (or contacting me in some way at the time -- I'm pretty sure the phones were working) asking me why I wasn't logged in. I told him to turn on the news channel. A short moment later, he said something like "oh... never mind." That's the way the system was designed to work from the very start, thus the term "web". Find a roadblock, find a way around it via a different route. Perhaps in these days of high speed optic systems some companies are shortcutting redundancy to save costs? This isn't the first time that a single backhoe accident has cut off a large area from internet access -- another reason to NOT use VOIP IMO. Message-ID: Bad news on my LTD coverage, but not totally unexpected. I received a letter yesterday that UNUM is terminating my benefits pending the results of my not-yet rescheduled FCE exam, and I have yet to recover from the damage to my muscles and joints from the little testing we did at my first FCE. They are still totally refusing to consider the statements and opinions on my health condition (mental and physical) from all of my healthcare providers and sticking to their "mental illness" bullshit diagnosis. Amazing how they can claim that I have a mental illness when I've never been examined by one of their mental illness "experts" to determine whether or not I am suffering from it, ain't it? My own therapist, who they forced me to see on a regular basis under threat of cutting off my benefits, has told them that I DON'T have PSTD or a Somatoform disorder (that's what UNUM claims I have), but they don't care what he has to say about me. Force me to see a therapist and then ignore his analysis of my mental health. Unbelievable. Time to talk to a lawyer....I was dreading it coming to this....on the brighter side, I found some articles online yesterday that will go a long way in my defense if this gets to court: Press release and more detailed article on CFS/mitochondrial dysfunction http://www.anhcampaign.org/files/Press-Release-Jan2009-CFS-test-ATP-mito-function_s.pdf http://www.anhcampaign.org/news/chronic-fatigue-syndrome-can-no-longer-be-labelled-psychosomatic The full paper was published in the International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Medicine entitled ''Chronic fatigue syndrome and mitochondrial dysfunction'', which I have no access to obtain online. Does anyone have the capability of finding/obtaining the paper so that I can have this test done? It would help me greatly in court if I get the test done and meet the criteria for a positive CFS diagnosis. I also found a ruling issued by the SSA in 1999 that essentially states that CFS is a legitimate disability: http://www.ssa.gov/OP_Home/rulings/di/01/SSR99-02-di-01.html From iwantsex at 0.3147397nowathome.com Fri Apr 10 20:21:20 2009 From: iwantsex at 0.3147397nowathome.com (iwantsex@0.3147397nowathome.com) Date: Sat Apr 25 11:09:59 2009 Subject: [SpamCop-Social] 2.634376E-02 Look Inside And Realize That Dream ... 0.8488063 Message-ID: 0.1158395 Look Inside And Realize That Dream ... 0.3147397 2.634376E-02 Now Visit Tobacco Is Drugs 0.8488063 From iwantsex at 0.3175886nowathome.com Fri Apr 10 21:03:12 2009 From: iwantsex at 0.3175886nowathome.com (iwantsex@0.3175886nowathome.com) Date: Sat Apr 25 11:10:06 2009 Subject: [SpamCop-Social] 0.8836991 Have To See This ... 0.1934577 Message-ID: 0.2641819 Have To See This ... 0.3175886 0.8836991 Now Visit Tobacco Is Drugs 0.1934577 From avoozl at spamcop.net Fri Apr 10 14:25:46 2009 From: avoozl at spamcop.net (Chris F. No 911, Ok, that is a seriously disturbing situation. I find it hard to believe that all cell phone towers were affected by a single fiber failure! That shouldn't happen, especially with landlines being down too. The various cell and landline providers have their own fiber networks, so I still can't believe that cutting one line severed ALL services. Must be something more to the story than I'm understanding. Only possibility is that they *did* have their own separate fiber lines, but at that junction point they were all routed thru the same conduit and bundled together. Therefore cutting that bundle of the lines (not just one line) _could_ have caused the problem. According to the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary, one definition of the word 'collateral' is: 'parallel, coordinate, or corresponding in position, order, time, or significance.' In 'Collateral' we see two people occupying roughly the same place in time and space over the course of a night in Los Angeles. They are roughly the same age. They are both extremely clever and perceptive people. They are both human beings with needs, wants, past experiences and potential. In short, they are 'collateral' to each other. But they couldn¹t be more different." Personally, I think it's an allusion to "collateral damage." A lot of people who aren't directly involved get hurt in the movie. -- D.F. Sometimes they're not even mistakes, they're choices that, given time, turn out to be the wrong choices in retrospect. When said mistakes and choices can be directly traced to one's current undesirable place in the world, it's difficult to ignore. Eventually given enough mistakes and regrettable choices piling up behind them, one must decide to: 1. Completely restart their life or reinvent themselves, in the hopes that their new life or new person will be more successful than their last. 2. Do nothing. Give up, and let time take them wherever it may, hoping that the choices made for them are better than the ones they themselves made. 3. March forwards towards their undiscovered goals, or backwards towards their abandoned dreams. Despite not seeing any clear future for themselves, they just pick a direction and go. They know that if they've survived the regret and pain of the past, they can survive anything that is to come. They may seek forever and not find true happiness, but it's better to try and fail than not try at all. All this, of course, is a choice. And as with all the choices that led to this point, it may be a good choice, a mistake, or a regret, leading back to the beginning again. Isn't life great? There's a big problem with such testifying people making their own self diagnosis followed up by more testimony as to which remedies are helping or not helping. Message-ID: I just got off the phone with my Dad's life insurance rep, who he contacted for info on filing claims against insurance companies. While we were talking, he came up with a brilliant idea, something that nobody had thought of before: Contact the MD Insurance Commission for help in filing my complaint/appeal/denial of benefits. Since he works in the insurance industry, he told me that insurance companies HATE state insurance commissions getting involved in claims. I'm going to call that Rapid Response phone number on Monday, an although my crisis doesn't exactly meet the criteria for emergency assistance, I'm hoping that when I explain what's going on that they will agree to expedite the investigation of my case. Otherwise, as mentioned below, it can take 2-3 months before the process begins. Maybe I can get a lawyer to go to a judge and get him to issue a stay order (or whatever it's called) for preventing the termination of my LTD payments until the investigation is complete? I'll ask the state legal aid lawyer that question next week when they get back in touch with me. Oh, one more thing. Today I got a letter from the SSA stating that their findings are that I do not meet their requirements for receiving SSDI, exactly what I expected the result to be. Snippets from the MD website below: http://www.mdinsurance.state.md.us/sa/jsp/consumer/FileComplaint.jsp The primary role of the Maryland Insurance Administration is to protect consumers from illegal insurance practices by ensuring that insurance companies and producers that operate in Maryland act in accordance with State insurance laws. We are here to assist you with your insurance inquiry or complaint about health, life, property and casualty insurance. The MIA also established a Rapid Response Program designed to help certain consumers resolve property and casualty claims (such as auto and homeowners claims including those made under commercial lines policies) quickly and without having to file a formal written complaint. For more information about this program, please contact us at 410-468-2340 or 1-800-492-6116 ext. 2340. Participation in the Rapid Response Program is voluntary and does not affect your rights to file a formal complaint. THIS IS WHAT WE CAN DO: Forward a copy of your complaint to the insurance company, if appropriate; Obtain information or explanations on your behalf from the insurance company or their representatives. This may involve written and verbal contact with such companies or persons; Review in detail the information obtained from the company for compliance with statutes, regulations and policy contracts; Explain the provisions of your insurance policy, as appropriate; Suggest to you actions or procedures that you may take which could aid in resolving your insurance problem; If it is determined that the actions of an insurance company are in violation of a statute, regulation or policy that the Administration enforces, we may take corrective action against that company. In the case of disability insurance complaints, make a medical decision as to the extent of an individual's disability. *****We investigate complaints involving disability insurance to determine (1) whether or not the denial decision is arbitrary or capricious***** and (2) whether or not the denial decision was rendered in accordance with the terms of the insurance contract and State insurance laws and regulations. PLEASE NOTE: Because of the length of time it takes to investigate a complaint, the Complaint process takes approximately 8 - 12 weeks. Sometimes, due to the mail, holidays, or the nature of the inquiry or complaint, the response time may take longer. We ask your patience and cooperation in allowing us to handle this matter for you. And weren't they involved with stealing documents from Ferrari last year too? What kind of loon is running that team?!? On another note, do you have ANY idea on how that dynamic braking energy recovery system works? I know that the energy is stored in capacitors for a rapid boost of up to 70 HP, but how the heck does stored high-amp high voltage electricity help boost the engine output of a car that runs on gasoline? Maybe the power gets back into the _drivetrain_ , bypassing the engine, via the regeneration system running in reverse? Meaning that the system is a two way electrical motor, and the electricity is used to speed up the rotation of the rear wheels via the (assumed) electrical motor? I question the whole thing to start with -- they've been trying to stop "high tech" stuff in the cars for a few years now to turn the series back into one where the driver's talent is more responsible for the car's performance instead of computer assistance devices -- and then they come up with what's got to be the most expensive and complicated device I can remember ever being installed in a racecar? And just for shits and giggles, they also made huge changes to the front and rear wing configurations and the underbody diffuser package(s)! I think the front end of this years cars are ugly as hell because of that gigantic front wing, it looks like some kinda aftermarket bolt-on hunk of plastic some gearhead would install on a rice-burner ;-) Oh, and they're back to racing on slicks too! Well, I CAN'T anyway. But if I could, it would still be better than selling some stocks at huge losses to pay my bills! That reminds me, now that I've cleared a bunch of things off of my "to do" list, I need to go back to researching how to get money out of my IRA tax and penalty free, if it comes to that. I have plenty of stuff in there I could sell without taking a loss. Actually, I sold some shipping stock at the beginning of the week to take some profits (pigs get slaughtered and all that), so right now I have enough cash in there that I wouldn't have to sell anything else for a while, assuming I can figure out how to withdraw it. And as it turns out, I was a little too conservative when I sold for a 25% gain -- in the last 3 days the stock price has unexpectedly skyrocketed. If I had only waited until today to sell I would have gotten $5 more per share, which would have doubled my profits to 50%, gol'darnit! Oh well, at least I only sold 1/3 of my shares of that stock, so I still benefited from the rise in price. Now it's back near the price it was at before the market collapsed last Oct/Nov, so I'm pondering whether I should sell ALL of it. Including my re-invested dividends, as of COB today I'm up 73% in it.....but it's 52 week high is 4 times higher than where it is now....so if the economy recovers....those shares I'm still holding will be worth a ton of dough......damn close to what my annual salary was before I had to stop working....decisions, decisions....got a crystal ball I can borrow? ;-) From nobody at spamcop.net Fri Apr 17 22:50:36 2009 From: nobody at spamcop.net (Indigo) Date: Sat Apr 25 11:49:11 2009 Subject: [SpamCop-Social] This it truly bizarre.... Message-ID: Every month or two I check the balance of my checkbook, using the checkbook register to check off items by comparing them to both my online bank checking account data and Quicken. My most recent balance confirmation was at the beginning of March (where I made a correction of about $118 in my favor), with a previous one in February. After over an hour of pouring over everything, I discovered that my checkbook register balance was off, by the exact amount of $500.00! I literally double-checked every single recorded transaction from the beginning of the year to today, and for the life of me I cannot figure out where the error came from. How could I have been balanced in Feb and March, only to turn up way off-balance in April? And the *exactness* of the error is very weird too.....I could understand if I missed a decimal point or two in an entry because of my frequent "brain fog" problems, but I cannot even find a transaction for any range of the exact number "5" in my checking, savings, or credit card account. So although it's great that I "found" an extra $500 in my checking account, but it disturbs me that I can't reconcile where or when the error occurred, and how I could have been theoretically "balanced" twice over the last few months, obviously in error....I dunno why I'm even posting this message...unless someone has had a similar experience or can come up with a plausible explanation for this bizarre discovery. I remember several years ago some show on TLC or Discover or Speedvision ran a standing start drag test with an F1 car vs. a British Jaguar fighter/bomber -- the F1 car blew it away despite the 30,000 whatever pounds of thrust provided by the two jet engines. The mass/inertia of the jet just couldn't compete with the power/weight ratio of the F1 car, which is about 900 hp vs 1400 kg weight. So do I keep paying the $35/mo fee or cancel it? I have to call ADT to find out how much it will cost me to reactivate the system once I'm on firmer financial standing, which may influence my decision. But in the meantime, what do you think? Keep it active or not? From nobody at spamcop.net Fri Apr 17 23:37:47 2009 From: nobody at spamcop.net (Indigo) Date: Sat Apr 25 11:49:27 2009 Subject: [SpamCop-Social] Re: This it truly bizarre.... I *do* remember that a month or so ago for some reason the balance data got erased and I had to refer to the handwritten register to re-enter my balance, but I swear I double checked the register and didn't find any errors. That doesn't mean that it didn't happen though....sometimes I'll spend 1/2 hour searching my house for something and end up finding it in some very obvious location....it's almost like my brain "remembers" what that room _used_ to look like, and the visual signals of a change in the appearance don't register in my brain. I normally have a pretty strong photographic memory, which I believe may be working against me in such times. Fscking lyme disease and heavy metal poisoning have apparently done some serious damage to my cranial function. Last month during an acupuncture session we were trying to figure out the exact date when some event occurred, and I literally could not add up 18+7 in my head, my recurring "brain fog" problem just refused to do the math that any kid in 3rd grade could do with ease. I ended up doing it with the tried and true "trick" of going to round numbers by adding 2 + 18 = 20, 7-2 = 5, 5+20=25. I am one of the five members of that Panel, and I would like the people who are living with this recession to get a chance to ask their questions about TARP, rather than the questions simply coming from me and the Panel. It is my personal view that although disagreement exists among very smart people, Treasury has a viable plan that can work. In fact it must work, but it can only work if people in our country are a part of the dialogue and solution. That dialogue starts with a chance to have questions heard and answered. Speaker Nancy Pelosi asked me to serve on this Panel to be a voice for the states and their citizens.I am also New York State's Superintendent of Banks and in that capacity I have felt that my job is not only to oversee banks, but to help people in financial distress. I plan to ask Secretary Geithner questions based on what I have learned from working with people in New York State who have been impacted by the crisis, including those who have tragically lost their homes and their savings. New York Governor David Paterson, who encouraged Speaker Pelosi to put me on this Panel, asked me to be as inclusive as possible in providing view points to the Secretary. So I would also like the chance to ask your questions too. We have done a lot in New York to help, but the states can't do it alone. A state/federal partnership is needed, with a national dialogue to get us to the right place. Please take a moment to post a question here that you would like the Secretary to answer. If you would like, include your name, where you are from, and what you do. I'll ask what my time allows. You can also reach me directly at rhneiman@banking.state.ny.us, or to share your story with the Panel, please visit the link at www.cop.senate.gov I am confident that, with your help, we can take advantage of this opportunity to begin the inclusive dialogue that we so badly need. I am asking the Huffington Post readers for these questions because in my opinion the readers are thoughtful and reasonable, as I would like this Panel to be. The goal here is not gimmicks or gotcha, but is to make sure Treasury hears people's substantive thoughts on TARP, even the ones that my limited time will not allow me to ask directly. I hope to stay in a conversation with you. Richard H. No, actually the front wings a longer, not shorter. Mebbe you were referring to their depth, not width? They used to end at the inside of the front wheels, now they extend to the outside rim, which makes them VERY susceptible to incidental damage that in the past would have been easily avoided. And I agree the rear wings look, well, just odd....as far as the diffuser issue, they interviewed some engineers pre-race and they said they're screwed for this year, it would take 6-9 months to safely make the changes. Turns out it wasn't an official rule change, but 3 teams made the changes based on their interpretation of the rulebook and the FIA just confirmed that they met the "spirit and intention" of the rules. Why > the hell is this all so damn complicated?! > Sounds like you're talking about stock options, maybe? Or real stock awards that don't become fully vested until some time period passes, in his case 3 years. If the shares were fully vested when issued, they would count as earned income and be taxable that year. As far as keeping track of different lots obtained via cash purchases or thru an employee benefit plan, you have to keep precise track of what he got and when. When tax time comes, if you've sold some of that stock that year you have the option of either using FIFO accounting (first in first out) or dollar cost averaging, and once you make your decision on which method to choose you are locked into that method for the rest of your life for that specific stock. As an example, the portion of stock I mentioned selling prematurely was acquired in 5 separate transactions (rule of thumb, if you want to buy x shares of y stock, do it by buying 1/4 or 1/3 of the total # of desired shares at a time so you can take advantage of market movements up and down). My first two lots (1/3 of what I eventually wanted to own) were purchased in Nov 08 in the $21-$22 range, just two weeks later the stock price had sunk to $7, so I bought about 1/2 more shares according to my investing plan, and I purchased the final lots in March of this year at $11. I also got 65 extra shares for $7.71 in Dec 08 from a dividend re-investment plan called a DRIP plan. So my "cost basis", meaning how much money was invested to purchase all my shares, was $10.60 at that point. When I sold the first 500 shares in my "swing trading plan" for $14.50, I netted a profit of 20%. I then rebought 600 shares at $12.30 investing the exact same amount of money I earned from the first sale -- essentially I got another 100 shares of stock "for free", minus the two $9.99 transaction fees. On an average cost basis, my per share cost dropped from $10.60 to $10.30. However, Ameritrade has a semi-useful app called "Gainskeeper" that automatically tracks your gains and losses for tax reporting, but they use the FIFO method. So instead of my personally calculated average pps of $10.30, they calculated the cost basis of the remaining # of shares I owned after the first sell at around $7, because the FIFO accounting method essentially "erased" my initial high cost purchases at the $22 range. I hope that helps......and one more thing....if you use tax prep software, you can "choose" which lots you sold to minimize the tax on your gains, similar to the FIFO method, but not exactly.....but then things become REALLY complicated for future tax calculations, so I wouldn't recommend doing it that way. Just thought of another thing: Once your hubby has actually "owned" those bonus shares for one calendar year, the shares officially become a long term investment, and the capital gains tax is only 15% when he sells them, not your normal income tax rate (28-35%?) so you wouldn't be hit with a "mondo" tax payment. But depending on exactly how they were issued (options or vested shares) he may have to pay a tax on the value of the shares once they are fully vested, since they would probably be labeled as "taxable income". If it's in a retirement account, don't worry about it. Sounds to me like you need to see a tax expert to clarify the issue, although his HR dept. may by able to assist him (but don't depend on them to provide an accurate answer!). Basically, if the 15% capital gains tax he'd need to pay if he sold some shares is greater than the "small profit" he'd receive, you're probably better of holding onto them, unless you absolutely HAVE to have that money for a downpayment. That 15% max tax rate on long term investments was probably the only good law the Shrub passed during his entire administration.....but it's on the table for being axed by Obama to pay for the trillions in debt the shrub left us to deal with. Current indications are that he is starting to realize that the "average" taxpayer also gets a great benefit from this law, it's not just for the rich, so the chances for it being renewed past 2010 are getting better and better. Sounds like it might be time to get a smart CPA. Just like the recently passed "speeding camera" law passed in MD on the last day of this term's session. They are allowing basically unfettered installation of automatic speeding cameras, a'la S-kat's and Meanies description of such cameras in the UK. Except for a few "special exemptions", of course.....all government vehicles are exempt, as are the vehicles occupied by employees of the State Legislature. So basically anyone working for the state in an official capacity is exempt from speeding tickets via the automatic cameras. Typical political bullshit to increase revenues...if the law was truly passed in the interest of "safety", as claimed, there is no difference in public safety between a speeding state Senator and your average Joe the Plumber. There is currently a highly successful (so far) petition action to get the law put on the 2010 election ballot to overturn it. Although since I had that neck surgery I highly doubt I could manage the g-load stress on my neck without suffering immense pain. Probably couldn't even road race my own car on a local track without causing pain -- there's a "real" track in WV about an hour from me that allows you to race your own car for a fee, a friend of mine used to race his beefed up Mustang down there. They also offer 2-3 day car driving courses, another long time dream of mine, you can choose to run in anything from a stock BMW 3 series to an open-wheeler (similar to an Indy Car but much smaller), but I think you need to pass the lower level course and get a certificate/license before they'll let you graduate to the open-wheelers, which of course are WAY faster and more dangerous. I almost took the course about 5 years ago but decided to spend the $4k fee on a new car instead. Now I wish I would have taken the course, since now my neck will probably prevent me from ever taking it :-( From avoozl at spamcop.net Wed Apr 22 16:36:02 2009 From: avoozl at spamcop.net (Chris F. Am I just misremembering or something? I ruptured the C5 cervical disk in 2004 and had disk replacement surgery in Jan 2005 to fix it. I have a few bone spurs on the vertabrae above and below the disk, plus a titanium "ladder" bolted to my spine to provide further strength so that I could continue to play sports without worrying that a blow to the head would break the bone fusion lines on the top and bottom of the replacement disk. So if I do certain things, like lean my head back multiple times while working on something above my head, or have the neck muscles put under severe physical stress, the muscles become aggravated from rubbing on the "protrusions" and go into spasm. Hell, if I just sit at my PC improperly for a protracted period of time they'll go into spasm -- the position is where you're leaning forward at the waist with your chin tilted up to get a closer view of the PC display. Realize, this is "free money" for the most part, unless a large part of his income is in the form of stock shares or options, which normally only occurs for VIPs of big corps to encourage them to boost the share price to maximize their income. Also a crappy way to run a business, since it encourages short term gains in leui of long term stability and growth. My neighbor (who knows much more about fish than I do) is jealous. :) The stand that came with the aquarium is water damaged so it needs to be replaced. My neighbor is going with me tomorrow to Lowes to grab some lumber to build one from scratch. Only 40 bucks worth of lumber...18 two-foot lengths of 2x4 and some plywood are all that's really needed. While I'm not normally concerned when it comes to my woodworking skills, I have to keep in mind that 135 gallons of water = over 1200 pounds of weight. Add the few hundred pounds of tank and we're looking at nearly a ton that needs to be supported. Good thing my room has a solid concrete slab foundation... Here's an article^1 which describes leak testing a used aquarium. The article's description takes about 4 days, 1/4 tankful at a time + 1 day observation per level. > The stand that came with the aquarium > is water damaged so it needs to be replaced. I wonder how the stand got water damaged if the tank doesn't leak. Maybe it used to leak and then it got leak repaired. ^1 http://www.firsttankguide.net/leak-test.php Checking an Old or Used Aquarium for Leaks Feb 28 Mike Easter wrote: >>> Borgholio wrote: >>>> I got me about 14 goldfish in a large tank my neighbor gave me. > Anyway, it is very nice that s/he also gave you a 20 gal tank, but you > are soon going to have to make some additional plans about whether you > are going to expand your water surface area or shrink your fish > population. -- Mike Easter kibitzer, not SC admin
